Monsoon indices

EAMAC has made investigation, survey and assessment on about 40 mainstream East Asian summer monsoon indices. From the angles of sea-land pressure difference, wind field vertical shearing, regional wind field difference and convection difference, these indices describe the change of monsoon intensity. We reconstructed these indices, gave their annual change curves of the indices and analyzed the correlativity between monsoon indices and summer precipitation, convection field (OLR), 850hPa and 200hPa divergence field. Based on the above work, EAMAC made real-time monitoring on partial indices and gave their daily change curves.

Our major products include
1. Definition of monsoon index and references;
2. Annual change curve of monsoon index;
3. Index assessment (figures of correlativity between monsoon indices and summer precipitation, convection field (OLR), 850hPa and 200hPa divergence field);
4. Daily change curves of real-time monitoring on 11 monsoon indices such as Webster-Yang index.
