 GENERAL SUMMARY OF CAS-XIV 7.3.9
The Commission endorsed the proposal of China to establish an East Asian Monsoon Activity Centre in Beijing for Project M1. The main functions of the Centre will be: (1) improving operational capabilities on East Asian monsoon monitoring, prediction and service; (2) providing training related to Asian monsoon; and (3) organizing and coordinating activities on East Asian monsoon research.

Dr. QIN Dahe
Chairman of National Climate Committee, PR China
Administrator of China Meteorological Administration
Permanent Representative of China with WMO
I’m glad to know that WMO endorsed Beijing Climate Center (China Meteorological Administration) to establish East Asian Monsoon Activity Center (EAMAC) at the 14th session of WMO Commission for Atmospheric Sciences (CAS-14) held in Cape Town, South Africa, Feb. 16-24, 2006. This fully affirmed the important contribution of BCC in promoting East Asian Monsoon monitoring, prediction and related researches and services in the framework of WMO. At the same time BCC is expected to play a greater role in providing training related to Asian monsoon, organization and coordination of research activities on East Asian monsoon. It is a good beginning for BCC to become one of the international top centers for climate science, technology and services, and to establish a better foundation for further development. I hope that the center will be able to meet the regional demand, stand at the international front, strengthen the cooperation, and promote innovation & development, which is necessary to promote the economic and social development and to make the research of East Asian monsoon beneficial to more people in the region.

Prof. Lianshou Chen
Chair of the CAS Working Group on
Tropical Meteorology Research
The research on East Asian monsoon is one of the most critical research areas in Asian climate study, and plays a very important role in the area of international monsoon research. WMO endorsed Beijing Climate Center (CMA) to establish East Asian Monsoon Activity Center (EAMAC). This fully affirmed the fruitful work of BCC in promoting East Asian Monsoon monitoring, prediction and related research & services. Hope that BCC will strengthen the cooperation with the monsoon research scientists in East Asia, Asia and even in the world, promote the innovation, organize and coordinate the research activities on East Asian monsoon, develop the targeted joint monsoon research projects, and put forward the further study of East Asian monsoon, so that to improve the prediction accuracy of monsoon.
