The First Science Meeting of Climate Science for Service Partnership (CSSP) Convened
The First Science Meeting of Climate Science for Service Partnership (CSSP) was held from 13-15 October 2014 in Beijing. Led by Prof. Stephen Belcher, a 16-person delegation from UK visited CMA and attended the meeting.
Dr. Song Lianchun, Director-General of BCC chaired the opening ceremony. Ms. Jiao Meiyan, Deputy Administrator of CMA, Stephen Belcher, Head of MOHC, and Prof. Zhu Jiang, Director-General of IAP/CAS, made addresses respectively. Nearly 90 participants from CMA Headquarter, BCC, IAP, BMB, BNU, NJU, NUIST, British Embassy, MOHC and partner universities, attended the meeting.
Ms. Jiao said, the workshop held at CMA from 9-10th June this year constructively and successfully discussed joint activity between the MO, CMA and IAP. Five work packages and scientific aims of CSSP were agreed during the workshop. The five packages link up scientific research, operational development and climate services.
She pointed out that, the Met Office and CMA share a solid foundation for cooperation and have many common interests. The climate science and climate services was acknowledged on the first priority among the cooperative areas by JWG-8 between MO-CMA early this year.
She highlighted that through cooperation, we wish to translate world-class science into services, support climate-resilient economic growth, better prevent from climatic disasters and adapt to climate changes, promote the implementation of GFCS, and benefit the peoples in both countries.
During the 3-day meeting, The MO, CMA and IAP worked together to discuss detailed plans to implement the scientific aims of CSSP, strengthening ties in the spirit of “collaboration”. The Executive Committee of CSSP was established to oversee the strategic direction of the CSSP collaboration over the next 5 years.
